About the Simmons Fund for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
The Simmons Fund
The Simmons Fund for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) was established in the fall of 2005 with a generous gift to the University of Pittsburgh by Richard P. Simmons.
Simmons’ gift established a fund at the University of Pittsburgh to focus on increasing the funds available for research into the cause and cure of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The fund is part of the University of Pittsburgh and is covered under the University’s 501(c) 3 charter as a nonprofit institution. Please consider supporting the Simmons Fund today.
There are no therapies to halt or reverse the course of IPF, and there is currently no FDA-approved treatment. About two-thirds of IPF patients die within five years.
Simmons is a trustee emeritus of the University of Pittsburgh, chairman of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and chairman, emeritus, former chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Technologies Incorporated.
